Here in Sarasota and Manatee Counties, there's been a rise in scams targeting seniors. These fraudsters use tricky tactics to steal your hard-earned money.

Here's the scam:

  • They call you, pretending to be from tech support or the government. They'll say your computer is at risk or there's a problem with your Social Security number.
  • They pressure you to "protect" your money by turning it into cash or buying gold, silver, or other precious metals.
  • They arrange for someone to pick up your cash or valuables, promising to keep them safe.
  • Sadly, you never see your money or valuables again.

Here's how to protect yourself:

  • Never give out personal information or money over the phone or internet to someone you don't know and trust.
  • If someone calls claiming urgency, hang up! Legitimate companies won't pressure you into making hasty decisions.
  • Don't click on suspicious links in emails or texts.
  • Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or your banker at Liberty Savings Bank before making any financial decisions, especially based on a phone call.

If you suspect fraud
