Flavors of Literacy is not your average fundraiser — it’s a celebration of culture and connection, all while raising funds and awareness for adult literacy in our community.
Why This Matters
Many of us take reading, writing, and language skills for granted — but for adults who struggle with literacy or are learning English as a second language, everyday life can be full of hidden barriers.
In Manatee County, 1 in 5 adults reads below a fifth-grade level — meaning essential tasks like filling out forms, understanding instructions, communicating with teachers or medical staff, or even reading to a child can be overwhelming.
When you support Flavors of Literacy, you help break down those barriers. Every ticket, sponsor, and volunteer helps the Manatee Literacy Council continue its free programs — from one-on-one tutoring and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to citizenship preparation and more.
What to Expect at the Event
Here’s a taste (pun intended) of what’s in store:
Culinary Delights from Around the World
Sample dishes from local restaurants representing French, German, Thai, Haitian Creole, and Hispanic/Caribbean cuisines.
Participating restaurants include La Belle Fourchette, Mama G’s German Bakery, My Thai Restaurant, and Acapulco Tropical.
Beer Pairings & Beverage Tastings
Because good food often calls for the right drink. (Yes — beer is included.)
Live Music & Dancing (Plus Free Mambo Lessons!)
Groove to performances by local artists, and if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at dance, instructors will teach you the steps.
Community & Connection
You’ll rub elbows with neighbors, local businesses, and literacy advocates, all united by a shared purpose: building a stronger, more empowered community.
Supporting Literacy, Empowering Lives
At Liberty Savings Bank, we’re honored to stand behind organizations like the Manatee Literacy Council, whose dedication to adult education truly transforms lives. Events like Flavors of Literacy remind us how powerful it can be when a community comes together to celebrate culture, share stories, and support a meaningful cause. The Manatee Literacy Council’s free programs — from one-on-one tutoring and English language learning to citizenship preparation — create lasting impact for local families.
We’re proud to help make events like this possible and grateful to join so many others who share a passion for learning, inclusion, and opportunity. When our neighbors thrive, our entire community grows stronger — and that’s something worth celebrating.

Storytelling Spotlight:
Real People, Real Change
One of the most powerful parts of literacy work is the stories. Imagine a parent who struggled to read English but wanted to help their child with homework. Or an immigrant learning English so they can pass a citizenship test or secure better job opportunities.
You’ll have the chance to meet learners and tutors during the event; hearing their journeys can spark empathy, connection, and inspiration.
What You’ll Walk Away With
- A fuller stomach — and a more adventurous palate
- New connections in the community
- A deeper understanding of literacy’s importance
- Satisfaction that your dollars supported real change in someone’s life
