Protect Yourself from IRS Impersonation Scams

At Liberty Savings Bank, your financial security is our top priority. We want to alert you to a recent scam targeting taxpayers, including residents here in Florida. Fraudsters are impersonating the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), sending deceptive text messages that claim you're eligible for a $1,400 Economic Impact Payment. These messages are designed to steal your personal and financial information.

How the Scam Works

You might receive a text message appearing to be from the IRS, stating that you qualify for a $1,400 stimulus check and prompting you to click a link or provide personal details. These messages often mimic official IRS communications but are part of a phishing scheme intended to compromise your sensitive data.

Automatic Payments

The IRS has announced that eligible taxpayers who didn't claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns will receive automatic payments by late January 2025. No action or personal information is required from you to receive these payments.

Official Communication Methods

The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers via text messages, emails, or social media channels. Official correspondence is sent through postal mail.

Protect Yourself

To safeguard your information:

Verify Communications

If you receive unsolicited messages claiming to be from the IRS, do not click on any links or provide personal information. Instead, visit the official IRS website at IRS.gov for accurate information.

Be Cautious of Urgency

Scammers often create a sense of urgency to prompt immediate action. Take the time to verify any claims independently before responding.

Report Suspicious Activity

Forward any suspicious messages to [email protected] and report them to the BBB Scam Tracker.
